The top photos show shoulder patches being formed on a Standard 4 tank
locomotive boiler. This is an original repair method favoured by Crewe and Derby,
and the Severn Valley Railway has practiced this repair method for nearly 30
years. It is a cost effective, reliable and proven repair procedure dating
back from the middle of the 19th century.
