In 1989 The Severn Valley Railway made a huge investment in constructing a purpose built boiler repair shop. Named in memory of George Knight, he was the Deputy Chief Boiler Inspector of British Railways (London Midland Region). Twenty years after the building of the boilershop, new generations of boilersmiths are still carrying out the very techniques George passed down to the early Severn Valley boilersmiths. Graham Beddow who learned his craft from George can claim to have a DNA of boiler repairing going back to Kirtley and beyond.
